Sub equipment creation

Hi Experts

I have a requirement to stop creating sub equipment form the main equipment coz Asset no = Equipment no ,there is no sub asset class .

So if sub equipment is created the no range will be messed up.

Please suggest how it can be achieved? Or if is  there another way.
